Cable ONE’s Alexander E. Morong Claims SCTE/ISBE IP Challenge 2016 Crown!
Promoting engineering excellence through competition, the 2016 SCTE/ISBE IP Challenge concluded Monday evening at SCTE/ISBE Cable-Tec Expo® 2016 in Philadelphia with Alexander E. Morong of Cable ONE prevailing over eight other contestants to become this year’s champion, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) and its global arm, the International Society of Broadband Experts (ISBE), announced today. Morong, who works in Phoenix, is a senior IP specialist with Cable ONE. He became an SCTE/ISBE member in May 2014.
Sponsored by Cisco, SCTE/ISBE IP Challenge 2016 began with virtual qualifying rounds conducted in recent months leading up to Monday evening’s live finals competition at Expo. The finals included three rounds of Jeopardy-style questions and one practical round of equipment configuration and troubleshooting—all designed to test finalists’ knowledge of Internet Protocol technologies and IPv6.
In his fine showing here at Expo, Morong not only posted the best Jeopardy score but also solved the most Cisco hands-on activities. Morong is the third Cable ONE professional to reign as champion, following in the footsteps of Bradford Chatterjee in 2012 and Robert Peiers in 2015.
The SCTE/ISBE IP Challenge was created to drive awareness among the SCTE/ISBE membership of the importance of foundational Internet Protocol (IP) knowledge. The event, now in its sixth year, has served to promote interest around the benefits of IP to the cable industry.
“The annual SCTE/ISBE IP Challenge demonstrates in an entertaining way what our engineers need to understand in order to keep up with the fast pace of technology and pave the way for future success in the cable industry,” said Steve Harris, senior director, advanced technologies and instruction, learning and development, SCTE/ISBE. “The Society thanks Cisco for sponsoring such spirited competition this evening in Philadelphia and throughout the 2016 SCTE/ISBE IP Challenge season.”
The eight other finalists who qualified for and competed at this year’s Expo were defending champion Robert Peiers of Cable ONE, Viktor Balou of Comcast, James Guidry of Charter, Cody Hall of Cable ONE, John Holt of Charter, Zack Stricker of Cable ONE, Kevin Trout of Cable ONE, and Douglas VanGessel of Cable ONE.
For winning, Morong receives one full-conference pass to Cisco Live and one full-conference pass to SCTE/ISBE Cable-Tec Expo® 2017, in Denver, at which he will attempt to defend his IP Challenge title. Dates for 2017’s virtual qualifying rounds are expected to be announced in the near future.
